Dua Lipa is floating in the ocean, the sun just beginning to set behind her. She looks strong, serene — save for the looming threat of a massive shark, fin just breaching the surface a few feet away.

The image is the cover of her third album, “Radical Optimism,” out Friday. It is an apt visual representation for an album about finding and protecting your peace in dangerous waters — a thematic maturation for the Grammy-award winning pop superstar, who has long identified her sound as “dance-crying.”

That cheeky term encapsulates the clubby jubilance of her biggest pop hits, but “Radical Optimism,” with its psychedelic electro-pop, complicates it.

“There’s definitely something more cathartic that comes with the third album,” she told The Associated Press recently.

“’Future Nostalgia’ was my chance for me to be able to do a very polished pop-dance-disco record,” she says of her 2020 sophomore release. “Radical Optimism,” alternatively, was informed by what she’s learned from touring the world over the last few years — drawing influence from trip hop and Britpop and including newfound interest in live instrumentation.

“It was so much more free flowing,” she says of her latest album’s creative process. “And it didn’t have a formula, per se, but I always had that pop sensibility in the back of my mind. But I wanted to just experiment and try and create something new. But I think this was always kind of the album that I’ve always wanted to make.”

In more ways than one: Around her first album, Lipa wrote down that she’d like to work with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker — specifically on her third album. The manifestation worked, and he became a crucial collaborator on “Radical Optimism.”

“It was almost like something deep down, instinctively, was telling me that it was something earned,” she says. “That over time I would be able to go in and work with a creative that I was so inspired by, and to be in a room and learn from him.”

As for the album’s title: “It’s euphoric, it’s togetherness,” she says.

“Dance music has such a long history of creating such a safe space. And I just want to embody that,” she adds.

She’s been working hard to get there. Lipa, now 28, began her career at age 15, when she convinced her family to let her move from Kosovo to London, where she was born, to pursue a pop career. She went to school, modeled, and in 2017 released her eponymous debut album with the blockbuster dance-pop hits “New Rules” and “One Kiss.” Then came the nu-disco electropop of 2020’s “Future Nostalgia,” which solidified her status as one of pop music’s biggest players. Not bad for a unique voice in the streaming era, where capturing the attention of the masses — and sustaining it — has never been more of a challenge.

In 2024, her pop songs contain a kind of learned elasticity. The melodies stack atop unusual synth sounds, the vocal range stretches (particularly on the cut “Falling Forever”), the dance breaks inspired by U.K. rave culture and format-benders Primal Scream and Massive Attack — they’re all elements Lipa says she wouldn’t have dared attempt on her last album. That came from working with Parker, producer Danny L Harle, songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. (known for his work with Harry Styles and Adele ), and Lipa’s longtime collaborator Caroline Ailin.

“She understands how to handle a lot of opinions in the room, including her own,” Jesso tells the AP. “She doesn’t value hers above anyone else’s, she simply uses the ones which work best for what she is trying to achieve.”

“We were a band,” Lipa says of the group. The first day they wrote “Illusion.” The second day, “Happy for You.” (“I’d never written a song like that before,” she points out. “And I loved that version of myself.”) The third day, the post-disco pop of “Whatcha Doing.” In bright, airy studios in London and Malibu, they finessed what would become Lipa’s most ambitious — and euphoric-sounding — record to date.

That experimentation appears across Lipa’s endeavors, too. She’s acting more — “little baby roles!” she says with a smile — after playing Mermaid Barbie in the blockbuster “Barbie” (she also contributed the ubiquitous, Grammy-nominated song “Dance the Night” to the soundtrack ) and LaGrange, a sultry spy in “Argylle” (a brief performance AP film critic Jake Coyle described as the movie’s best few minutes ).

In 2022, she founded a newsletter called Service95, what she views as an extension of a childhood blog, to “tell stories from all around the world, not solely from a Western lens,” she says. It has grown into a website, podcast and book club: “It’s just another hobby of mine that I’ve somehow managed to turn into a job, which is just great,” she says, smiling.

“My day job, which is my music career, which I love, comes with constantly being online. And I think for me, at least now I’m searching for other things, and not doomscrolling on Twitter,” she says of her media enterprise. “At least this way I’m like learning something new about the world. I love having that kind of duality in my life.”

It’s a duality fueled by curiosity, like when Lipa made headlines late last year for challenging Apple CEO Tim Cook in an interview on her podcast over reports of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo mining cobalt for iPhones.

“That was scary, and really exciting,” she says. “You never really know what to expect when you go in to interview someone.”

A few days after visiting the AP’s New York headquarters, Lipa appears at a public high school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan to speak to students in a conversation moderated by Drew Barrymore.

“One of the things I admire about her is how incredibly intelligent she is,” Barrymore says in her introduction, commending Lipa for not only being an “icon,” but someone who is “globally aware.”

In conversation, Lipa is generous and warm, particularly to a freshman drama student named Dolce, who is also Albanian, and expresses a desire to make it in the entertainment industry. Lipa tells her that identity, intentionally or not, is woven into her music.

At the end of the event, Lipa says she feels “optimistic about life overall, everything that comes with it,” and takes a moment to look out at the audience. “I’m the most optimistic about the next generation.”

And then, almost as swiftly as she arrived, Lipa leaves. A lingering positivity permeates the air. It recalls something she told the AP earlier in the week: that she strives to be “violently happy” in life and in her endeavors.

“You sometimes have to push yourself into that feeling,” she says. Remaining grateful is “definitely a muscle that needs to be exercised.”

On “Radical Optimism,” she’s written the workout soundtrack.

Britney Spears won’t have to pay spousal support to Sam Asghari.

The 30-year-old fitness instructor-turned-actor filed for divorce from the ‘Toxic’ hitmaker in August 2023, after just over a year of marriage, and earlier this week it was reported they had filed a Stipulated Judgement – a voluntary agreement between all parties to settle a case – and the 42-year-old pop star’s lawyer Laura Wasser has filed a response to Sam’s divorce petition.

And now after the divorce was finalised, details obtained by E! Online showed the court won’t order any payments to and from either party but they will divide up their property based on a private settlement agreement.

Legal documents stated they have “entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support.”

The documents listed the date of separation as 30 July last year, with Sam filing for divorce around two weeks later.

The paperwork stated: “Irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties that have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.

“[Both] acknowledge that their marital relationship cannot be restored or reestablished at this time.”

A judge has signed off on the request and the couple’s respective single statuses will be restored on 2 December, the ‘Gimme More’ singer’s 43rd birthday.

Britney and Sam are said to have signed a prenuptial agreement before their wedding in June 20022.

Just days after Sam filed for divorce last year, it was claimed he was not going to contest the document.

A source told The New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column at the time: “He admitted publicly he is not fighting [their prenup agreement]. This will be resolved quietly and professionally and soon. That’s it.”

Jennifer Aniston refuses to use TikTok because it’ll “ruin [her] life”.

The 55-year-old actress, who is best-known for playing Rachel Green in ‘Friends’, is determined to keep social media “at arm’s length”, citing that TikTok in particular can be damaging to your own and other people’s mental health.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, she said: “I don’t have TikTok, nor will I ever. I just won’t.

“I’m not gonna subscribe to one more thing that is gonna ruin my life or somebody else’s life.”

Jennifer warned social media platforms can waste “hours of your life” and admitted she sometimes finds herself plunge into “wormholes” of meaningless content for extended periods of time.

She continued: “It could suck you in and you’ve wasted hours of your life.

“I can’t believe sometimes when I found myself in an absolute wormhole of dog, puppy videos and rescue animals, and babies, and cats. That’s the stuff I enjoy. But then there’s some stuff online I just don’t wanna see.”

‘The Morning Show’ star emphasised she didn’t believe social media was “healthy” for society because we’re not “designed” to use those platforms.

She explained: “[We are not] designed to take in the information at the speed and the rate that we do these days.

“I just don’t think it’s good for us. I don’t think it’s healthy.”

Jennifer then reflected on the detrimental effects platforms like Instagram and Snapchat can have on teenagers in particular, and argued they promote a “compare and despair” culture that could damage young people’s mental health.

She explained: “We’ve got good days. We’ve got bad days. We have good hair days. We’ve got s***y hair days. We’ve got good skin days, bad skin days. It’s a mixed bag.

“It’s also just so unrealistic to try to sell something that doesn’t feel authentic.”

The actress concluded the best way to use social media was to “just be who you are” online.

Ryan Gosling is finished with depressing roles for the sake of his family.

The 43-year-old actor, who made his name with heavy roles in bleak films such as ‘Drive’, has now shifted to comedies including ‘Barbie’ as he continues to raise the two daughters he has with his 50-year-old partner Eva Mendes – Esmeralda, nine, and Amada, eight.

He told WSJ. Magazine’s June/July issue: “I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place.

“This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for (me and my family.)

“The decisions I make, I make them with (Eva) and we make them with our family in mind first.”

Ryan added about his career shift to lighter films: “I think ‘La La Land’ was the first,” Gosling told the magazine. “It was just sort of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for them, too, because even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we’re dancing or we’re singing.’”

The actor also retold his story about his girls “interest” in Barbie and their “disinterest” in Ken giving him the inspiration to play the doll in Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ film, which led to him lamding an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.

He added: “(The girls) were already making little movies about their Barbies on the iPad when it happened, so the fact that I was going off to work to make one too, we just felt like we were aligned.

“I’m trying to just figure out who they are and be there for them in the way that I can.

“They’re such clear and distinct personalities that it’s sort of becoming obvious.”

Ryan’s other darker roles include a borderline alcoholic husband in 2010’s ‘Blue Valentine’ and a tormented gangster in ‘Only God Forgives’.

His latest part is as lovelorn stunt man Colt Seavers in ‘The Fall Guy’ opposite 41-year-old Emily Blunt.

He added about his daughters worrying about him taking the role: “My kids didn’t want me to be set on fire.

“Even though I said, ‘Well, it’s actually, technically, the safer thing to do because there’s a lot of protective stuff involved.

“(They) were like, ‘No. No fire.’ So I didn’t do it.”

Billy Idol has “got over” being a drug addict.

The 68-year-old singer claimed he made a choice to “not be a drug addict anymore” after he almost lost his leg in a motorcycle accident in 1990 and he feels “really lucky” that his substance abuse issues are behind him.

He told People magazine: “I really started to think I should try and go forward and not be a drug addict anymore and stuff like that.

“It took a long time, but gradually I did achieve some sort of discipline where I’m not really the same kind of guy I was in the ’80s. I’m not the same drug addicted person.

“I mean, AA would say, ‘You’re always a drug addict.’ And that may be true, but I don’t do anything that much anymore. I got over it somehow. I was really lucky that I could get over it because a lot of people can’t.”

The ‘White Wedding’ singer considers himself “California sober” and is happy to indulge now and again without worrying it will set him down a slippery slope.

He said: “I can have a glass of wine every now and again. I don’t have to do nothing. But at the same time, I’m not the drug addict that I was in the peak ’70s, ’80s…

“I’m, I suppose, ‘California sober.’ I just tell myself I can do what I want, but then I don’t do it. If I tell myself I can’t do anything, I want to do it. So I tell myself, ‘You can do anything you like.’ But I don’t actually do it.”

Billy finds it helpful to have sober friends around him.

He said: “A lot of my friends from the old days are sober. [My guitarist] Steve Stevens is sober and [guitarist/singer] Billy Morrison in my band is sober. There are people around me who are sober. That helps a lot.”

Matthew Perry’s empty mansion he bought three months before his drugs death is on sale for $5 million.

The troubled ‘Friends’ actor – who spent years fighting drink and drug addictions before he died aged 54 on 28 October after being found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles – bought the home in LA but never got to enjoy the luxury property.

DailyMail.com is reporting the Hollywood Hills pad is at 1479 Rising Glen Road and boasts three bedrooms and four bathrooms over a massive 2,566 square feet, on a 9,622 square foot lot.

Matthew is said to have closed the sale for $4,995,000 for the fully-furnished house on 31 May last year.

The Mail said: “The stunning home perches in the hills above the iconic Sunset Strip and boasts a classic look, with walls of glass surrounding a sun-filled patio at the centre of the property.

“From the street, the house offers privacy with surrounding gates and a large driveway leading to a double-car garage.”

Matthew never got to enjoy the home before he was killed by the “acute effects of ketamine”.

In 2020, he sold his Malibu beach house for $12.95 million and bought the $6 million ranch-style property where he died in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood of LA.

The mansion currently on sale also features a swimming pool, fire-pit and a south-facing deck, with each bedroom fitted out with an en-suite bathroom.

Listing agents Greg Holcomb and Tim Durkovic of Douglas Elliman declined to comment, according to the Mail.

Along with the fortune he made from playing Chandler Bing in ‘Friends’ Matthew racked up a property portfolio worth millions.

He sold his properties for a total of $35million over the last years and had been replacing them with more modest homes – but is said to have died with a net worth of $120 million.

Britney Spears is said to be home and “safe” after she was seen wandering topless in a blanket after reportedly being involved in a bust-up with her rumoured ex-boyfriend.

The ‘Toxic’ singer, 42, sparked fears for her mental health after being snapped barefoot and dressed only in her underwear coming out of the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles looking distraught and bleary eyed as she was escorted to emergency services on Thursday (02.05.24) morning.

A source has now told Page Six Britney, who lives in nearby Thousand Oaks, California, left the hotel grounds with her security, adding she is “home now and is safe”.

Another insider told the outlet: “She is home and fine.”

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said the emergency services didn’t “transport anyone to the hospital” during the incident.

The ordeal happened just after Britney settled her divorce from ex-husband Sam Asghari, 30, late on Wednesday (01.05.24) night.

They called it quits in August 2023 after 14 months of marriage.

A source told Page Six: “Britney is continuing to turn the page.”

They insisted the divorce was finalised “amicably” given the pair’s “ironclad prenup”.

Britney also recently reached a settlement with her estranged dad Jamie Spears, 71, in their conservatorship case, allowing them to avoid going to trial in what already had been a 13-year battle.

Jamie placed Britney under the controversial legal arrangement in February 2008 and a Los Angeles judge ended it in November 2021 after the Grammy winner described it as “abusive”.

She is said to have been blowing her estimated $60 million fortune on holidays and lavish living since the ruling.

TMZ has reported Britney arrived at the Chateau late on Wednesday (01.05.24) night, and said police were called after a “disturbance” caused by someone who looked like the singer.

She and her rumoured ex Paul Richard Soliz reportedly then returned to their room around 11pm where the outlet said they “partied and drank”.

They are said to have got into a “huge physical altercation” in which Britney “may have hurt her leg” and it was claimed she was “screaming” and “out of control” in the hallway of her suite.

Britney did not get into an ambulance and is said to have left with her security and without Paul – who she denied in February she’d been dating.

Paul has multiple felonies including as possession of a firearm in December 2022 when he was employed by Britney.

Britney has also caused concerns for her wellbeing on several occasions after being released from her controversial conservatorship as she regularly posts rambling messages on her Instagram alongside nude photos and videos, including a now-infamous one of her playing with knives in her kitchen.

Sony Pictures and the private equity firm Apollo Global Management have expressed interest in buying Paramount Global for $26 billion, according to a person familiar with the details.

Sony would be the majority shareholder and Apollo would have a minority stake, according to the person, who requested anonymity because details of the offer have not been made public.

The Sony-Apollo offer was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal reported previously that Apollo had made an offer to buy Paramount on its own but Paramount’s board had concerns about the bid, including whether it could arrange financing for a deal.

The Journal and others have reported that Paramount is considering a possible merger with Skydance, David Ellison’s media company that has helped produce such Paramount releases as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.”

Earlier this week, New York-based Paramount said that Bob Bakish would step down as CEO of the film, television and multimedia company, to be replaced by a troika of executives who will form a new “Office of the CEO.”

Less than a week after reaching a court settlement with her father, Britney Spears has reached one with her soon-to-be-ex-husband.

Spears and Sam Asghari submitted an agreement for dividing up their assets to a judge for approval, according to documents filed in a Los Angeles court on Thursday, nine months after they separated.

The filings gave few details but said neither Spears nor Asghari will get future spousal support. Asghari had said in his initial petition that he would seek financial support. Any future disputes would need to be settled in private arbitration.

A judge is likely to sign off on the stipulated solution soon and declare both of them single.

Emails seeking details or comment from lawyers for both Spears and Asghari were not immediately returned.

The two had no children together, so no custody agreement was necessary. Spears wrote in her memoir published last year that she and Asghari had a miscarriage early in a pregnancy about a month before they married.

The 42-year-old pop superstar and Asghari, a 30-year-old model and actor, separated in July, about 13 months after they married and seven years after they began dating. He filed for divorce in August.

Their marriage at her home in June 2022 in front of guests including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna, was seen as a triumphant milestone in her newly reclaimed life after she was freed six months earlier from the court conservatorship that controlled her life and money for more than 13 years.

Last Friday, Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, reached a settlement on the lingering issues from that legal arrangement, avoiding what could have been a long, ugly and revealing trial that was scheduled to start later this month.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have settled their divorce.

The former couple are said to have filed a Stipulated Judgment – a voluntary agreement between all parties to settle a case – and the 42-year-old pop star’s lawyer Laura Wasser has filed a response to Sam’s divorce petition.

The 30-year-old fitness instructor-turned-actor filed for divorce from the ‘Toxic’ hitmaker in August 2023, after just over a year of marriage.

According to TMZ, a judge is expected to sign off on the divorce soon, which will officially end their marriage.

Britney and Sam are said to have signed a prenuptial agreement before their nuptials.

Just days after Sam filed for divorce last year, it was claimed he was not going to contest the prenup.

A source told The New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: “He admitted publicly he is not fighting [their prenup agreement].

“This will be resolved quietly and professionally and soon. That’s it.”

It comes after ‘A Time to Kill’ actress Octavia Spencer made headlines in 2021 for urging Britney to make Sam sign such an agreement.

At the time, Britney revealed her engagement ring on Instagram and told her fans Sam had proposed after nearly five years of dating.

Octavia commented on the announcement: “Make him sign a prenup.”

After the remark went viral, the Oscar-winner backtracked slightly by saying she was only making a “joke”.

She also apologised online, writing: “My intention was to make them laugh, not cause pain. I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of.

“Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her. So let’s show them love. #nonegativity. (sic)”

Sam accepted the actress’ apology by commenting online: “You are very kind to clarify but I have no hard feelings whatsoever. Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a new photograph of Princess Charlotte in honour of her ninth birthday.

The couple’s only daughter is celebrating her special day on Thursday (02.05.24), and to mark the occasion, a new photograph taken by her mother Catherine has been shared on their official social media channels.

In the photo, which was taken in Windsor recently, Charlotte had her hair down and smiled for the camera as she leant against some railings by a flowery hedge, wearing a blue denim skirt with a darker-hued top and a maroon cardigan.

The post was captioned: “Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte! [Birthday cake emoji] Thank you for all of the kind messages today. [Photo by] The Princess of Wales.”

The post comes a week after another of Catherine’s photographs was used to mark Prince Louis’ sixth birthday on 23 April.

The couple captioned the post on their official Instagram page: “Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis!

Thank you for all the kind wishes today.”

In March, Catherine apologised after the legitimacy of a Mother’s Day photograph of her and her children, which also includes 10-year-old Prince George, was questioned because of digital alterations.

A statement released by the princess explained: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

It was the first official picture of the royal since she underwent abdominal surgery in January and stepped away from the spotlight during her recovery.

Catherine later revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer as speculation grew about her stepping out of the spotlight and she is continuing to receive preventive treatment.

Her husband, Prince William, recently declared his family were “doing well” amid his wife’s medical issues while on a visit to a male suicide prevention charity in Newcastle, North East England.

William was asked by 60-year-old Julie Cain outside the James’ Place centre: “Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?”

He replied: “All doing well, thank you. Yes, we’re doing well.”

Ozzy Osbourne is pleased he started stem cell treatment for his Parkinson’s disease.

The 75-year-old rock star announced in early 2020 that he had been diagnosed with the brain condition that causes stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination, and decided to undergo treatment after discovering a tumor on his vertebrae.

On the latest episode of his SiriusXM show ‘Ozzy Speaks’, he explained: “I’ve just come back from the doctor after having some stem cells put in me.

“The thing is, you have it, and you go, ‘I don’t feel that great,’ but I don’t know what it would be like if I didn’t have it.

“But apparently, this stuff that I’m on now is a real business show.

“This stuff that I have, it’s kind of like a super fucking stem cell, you know? They put three bottles in me this morning. I had one about three months ago and this was a follow-up, and I’ve got to go in about six months from now

The Black Sabbath star – who is married to music manager Sharon Osbourne and has Aimee, 40, Kelly, 39 and 38-year-old Jack with her – previously admitted that his surgeries had “really knocked [him] out” and had left him feeling “rough”.

He told Rolling Stone UK: “It’s really knocked me about. The second surgery went drastically wrong and virtually left me crippled. I thought I’d be up and running after the second and third, but with the last one they put a … rod in my spine. They found a tumour in one of the vertebrae, so they had to dig all that out too. It’s pretty rough, man, and my balance is all [messed] up.”
